India
As there are so many languages in India, we really need a common language that's when English comes Handy as we are ruled by the British and in need of common language we choose English and made it compulsory in all levels starting from Schools till university and in public boards, we made it mandatory.
After some years it takes to another level to thought of thinking English is the superior as by learning that we can go abroad and flourish well in world powers. We left our mother tongue back in the race and started to be craze for English. Having a thought of speaking of English is only pride and communicating in mother tongue is a bar low.
Due to this, we are facing a generation where children say that they don't know their mother tongue and communicate only in English even in their homes That's where we are standing now, the problem is as in our Education system too, one student can complete from pre-school to university without the need to study his mother tongue language. As the mode of language used for Education is English, due to this lot of native language came extinct. We are in a verge to act
Starting from Schools till the apps and software in Mobile and Device, half of the places we have only English leaving out our native language in even sign boards and in other things. It's true that most of us can understand and speak English well but they are leaving our history behind, That's not a good sign, we should try to change it as soon as possible
Europe
The first thing I got amazed after landing in Europe is that importance that these people are giving to their mother tongue. It's such a bliss to see these people giving that much importance to their mother tongue, And it's a duty of each person too
But it doesn't mean these people cannot speak English, the younger generation are well known in speaking English but in the public places and other places they are not shy to speak in their native tongue having a thought like speaking in English is superior while on native is bar low. There is no such thing these people have in their minds.
As European union too consists of so many languages, they too need a common barrier and using English as means of that. But it doesn't mean they are having English in place of their mother tongue. It just means they are using it for some purposes. That's the thing we the Indians should learn from Europe and should try to give importance both to our mother tongue and to English
Examples
Even in a University website, you can see while on a university in Europe has its website available in its own language and in English while on other hands University in India has it's website only in English
